About the World

This page contains general stuff about the world. From the general state of the world, the numerous sapient species living within, to - *inhales deeply* - how superpowers / magic / (whatever it is you call anyway) work, you can find it here (hopefully). Some more important things (such as the different species) also get their own pages!

The general state of the Takeoverse

Some people say the world was once normal. And by "normal," they mean that the world was once populated only by humans, with no supernatural elements and / or phenomenon crawling around every corner. That is, until the man-eating monsters came, and also the talking objects, and also the whole superpower thing, and the resulting chaos led to the world becoming... whatever it is now.

Meanwhile, other people say that the people who say so are very clearly racist - other sapient species have the same right to exist on planet Earth as humans do, too. Usually these "other people" are also politicians. There are also other other people who hold vastly different views from the two kinds of people mentioned above - but that's beside the point for the moment.

Anyways. A major part of the world is a barren wasteland consisting of a bunch of abandoned buildings and streets and such from whatever previous civilization there is, in which monsters and other odd creatures roam. These wastelands are collectively called “the Jungles.”

Amidst the Jungles, there are human settlements scattered here and there. They form different factions amongst themselves and probably also go to war with one another. Monsters also have their own factions, which is also at war with human factions or amongst one another. Meanwhile, sentients are without their own major factions - a marginalized group, they live amongst other major factions.

Superpowers exist. And magic, too, maybe. Some say they are the same thing, while others don't. They still debate about it to this day.

Occasionally, things of the eldritch and the unknown also appear for some reason. They defy all common sense and logic, except for when they don’t. Usually, you won’t want to encounter those ones.

Also, the sky is red.

Sapient species

The notable sapient species of the world are as follows...

  • Humans: just what you imagine normal humans to be like, I guess.
  • Monsters: bizarre creatures that come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, each with their own unique forms, physiology, skillsets, strengths, and weaknesses - but with the almost universal trait to grow stronger with each human they devour.
  • Sentients: inanimate objects that spontaneously gain sentience due to some unknown mechanism. Also come in all sorts of shapes and sizes or something.
  • Remnants: the dead brought back to life.
  • The Eldritch: not really a "species," per se, but rather an umbrella term for things that are... well, eldritch.

There are also other less notable sapient species (...?) in this world, such as, uh, aliens or something (see: Gondo). But like, there is literally only one (1) alien the main characters get to see, like, ever, and it's Gondo, not to mention Gondo never says what kind of alien he is anyway, so these don't get their own pages.

So how exactly do superpowers or magic or whatever you call them work anyway?

*very, very deep sigh* honestly? I have no idea either.
